Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set it aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, chopped green bell pepper, beaten eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Mix until all ingredients are well combined, being careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf tough.
Step 3: Shape and Bake
- Transfer the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan, pressing it down gently to form an even loaf.
Step 4: Make the Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, and yellow mustard until smooth.
- Spread the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
Step 5: Bake the Meatloaf
- Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Cook Notes & Tips
- Breadcrumbs: You can use plain or seasoned breadcrumbs, depending on your preference. If you prefer a softer texture, substitute with crushed saltine crackers.
- Milk: Whole milk adds richness, but you can use any type of milk or even a non-dairy milk substitute.
- Mix Gently: Be careful not to overmix the meat mixture, as this can result in a dense meatloaf. Mix just until all ingredients are combined.
- Resting Time: Allowing the meatloaf to rest before slicing helps retain its juices, making it more tender and flavorful.
